11U Head Coach Shane Burnette is a 1997 graduate of L.C. Bird High School.  While at Bird, Burnette was the Team MVP in 1996 and 1997 on a team that included 2 future NCAA Division 1 players, 2 future NCAA Division 3 players, and 1 future NCAA Division 2 player. He was also all district, all district academic, and a team captain for 2 seasons. Burnette’s class at Bird reestablished the Skyhawks as a regional contender by finishing 2nd in the District and beating the #2 team in the state, the Hopewell Blue devils in the regional tournament.  Burnette was enshrined in the L.C. Bird Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. 

Burnette attended Bridgewater College earning a B.S. in Business Administration in 2001.  As a member of the men’s basketball team, Burnette started the first game of his college career and went on to start every game of his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.  Burnette missed 1 career college game.  As a senior Burnette was a team captain, an all-conference performer , an all-academic all-conference performer, and led the team to a record of 19-7 including a school record, 13 consecutive wins.  Burnette stills holds an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Record for consecutive field goals made going 21-21 during a 3 game stretch.  Burnette played alongside Division 3 All-American in Kyle Williford.  While at Bridgewater, Burnette was a teammate to then freshman shooting guard, Andrew Lacy, the 2018 VHSL Class 5 State Coach of the Year.
Upon graduation Burnette was offered multiple jobs from college coaches within the ODAC conference and was also offered the graduate assistant positon under then University of Richmond Head Coach, John Belein. Instead of coaching Burnette went into his family business. No stranger to AAU basketball having played for Richmond Metro growing up, when the coaching bug hit Burnette, he coached for 2 seasons with Team Richmond 17U Elite Head Coach Del Harris.  During their 2 seasons together, Harris and Burnette coached a combined 7 NCAA Division 1 players including Tyrese Rice and 3 NCAA Division 2 and 3 players.  Burnette brings a passion for the game of basketball and a love for helping kids through athletics to Team Richmond Garner Road’s roster of coaches.
