Team Richmond-Garner Road is a close-knit, cohesive and comprehensive basketball organization that cares about each player from the youngest to the oldest. TRGR focuses on skill development at all age levels and nurtures its player throughout their time playing in the organization.
The younger groups, from second grade to eighth grade, receive individual skill development from a talented and knowledgable group of coaches. The 9th to 11th grade players are groomed by an outstanding group of expert coaches for playing at the next level — college basketball! Those players build on the detailed instruction they’ve learned throughout their time with TRGR and are fundamentally and athletically prepared to take their games to a higher level. How do I play for a Team Richmond-Garner Road team?
Formal tryouts are conducted for each grade category. Tryouts from 2nd to 8th grade are held in November. Tryouts for grades 9-11 are generally held at the end of February or the beginning of March.
How long is the season?
In general, the 2nd through 8th grade season runs November through July and the 9th through 11th grade seasons runs from the end of February to the end of July.
How much does it cost to play for Team Richmond-Garner Road?
The cost is $450.00 per player. That fee pays for AAU Membership, practice facility time, a reversible practice jersey and three tournaments.
Do the players wear uniforms?
Yes. All Team-Richmond-Garner Road teams (2nd grade to 11th grade) exclusively wear Adidas apparel and shoes at all times while representing the organization.
What type of schedule does a Team Richmond-Garner Road team play?
The schedule is determined by each teams coach. In general, the 2nd to 8th grade teams play play and travel regionally (Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland). The 9th to 11th grade teams travel nationally. Specifically, the 15 and 16 age group teams play and travel on a Showcase Tournament schedule determined by the coach. The age 17 team plays and travels on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit.
How many games are played at a given tournament?
There is no hard and set rule, but in general, teams will play two or three games.
How many practice days per week are there?
There is no hard and set rule when it comes to practice, but normally 2nd to 8th grade teams will practice twice a week. The 9-11 grade teams may practice three times a week.
